Our Story: The Heart Behind Mitten Handyman & Flooring Services

When you invite someone into your home to work on it, trust matters. That’s why at Mitten Handyman & Flooring Services, what we do is about more than just repairs and projects—it’s about people.

Our story starts long before the business was officially created.

Randy’s experience goes all the way back to his teenage years, helping his dad at his grandparents’ property in Morley, Michigan. Over the years, that hands-on experience turned into a wide range of skills through both his work and everyday life. He became what many people would call a “jack of all trades”—someone who could step in and figure things out, no matter the job.

But it wasn’t just about learning the work—it was about finding purpose in it.

After traveling to Mississippi to help with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Randy discovered something even more important: a passion for helping people during times when they really need it. That experience stuck with him and helped shape the kind of work he ultimately wanted to do.

As a family, we spent several years moving around Michigan—from Grand Rapids to Novi to Holland—and when it was time to put our roots down all we knew was that we wanted to be back “up north”. When we found and purchased our home in Howard City in 2025, everything clicked. We quickly fell in love with the area and the sense of community here.

That’s when we knew—it was time.

Time to build something of our own.
Time to serve the community we had just become a part of.
Time to turn years of experience into something meaningful for others.

Today, Mitten Handyman & Flooring Services is truly a family effort. Randy works out in the field alongside his brother, while I help keep things running behind the scenes. At home, we’re raising four kids (2nd – 12th grade) and chasing around our energetic one-year-old American Pitbull, Loki—so we definitely understand how busy life can get.

That’s why customer satisfaction is at the heart of everything we do.

We know how important your home is, and we treat every project with the same level of care and attention we would give our own. Customers often tell us they appreciate Randy’s laid-back, positive personality just as much as the quality of his work—and we believe both matter.
